Geraldine Naidus, 94, formerly of Marblehead, died on April 17, 2016, at Van Dyk Health Care in Ridgewood, N.J. She is the widow of Harold Naidus, to whom she was married for 62 years.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Naidus was a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1943. She earned a Masters of Education Degree in Counseling at Northeastern University in 1969 and was honored with initiation into Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society in education. She later worked as the Director of Volunteers at a mental health clinic in Reading.
A Marblehead resident for more than 50 years, Mrs. Naidus was active in the League of Women Voters and was a founding member of Temple Emanu-El in Marblehead. In the 1960s, she also helped found the Marblehead Council for Public Schools. The latter organization conducted in-depth studies of curricula in the Marblehead Public Schools, making recommendations to the School Committee. Key recommendations were implemented.
Mrs. Naidus is survived by her son, Robert Naidus of Teaneck, N.J., and her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Martin Gilbert of Glen Rock, N.J.; four grandchildren, Jeremy, and his wife Jane, and Alex Naidus; Lisa and Karen Gilbert; and two great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Sam Naidus.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, at 12 noon from the Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin Street, Salem. Burial will be in Temple Emanu-El Memorial Park in Danvers.
