Loeb Katz of Boca Raton, Fla., and Swampscott died on May 17, 2016. He was 82.
Born in Beverly, he was a graduate of Malden High School and attended University of Miami. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956.
In 1956, with $25 in his pocket, he founded New England Serum Company, now known as PetEdge. In 1995, the Katz family sold its chain of Just for Pet superstores to Petco.
Mr. Katz had resided in the Marblehead/Swampscott area since 1963 and had also maintained a home in Boca Raton since 1988.
A member of Temple Emanuel Andover, he was also a past member of Kernwood Country Club in Salem and Temple Emanu-El of Marblehead.
Mr. Katz was the devoted husband of Natalie (Simon) Katz; the beloved father of Andrew Katz and his wife Laura Hillman and Debi Katz Marrow and her husband Joseph Marrow; cherished grandfather of Rebecca Marrow, Abby, Joshua and Zoe Katz, and dear brother of Solomon Katz and Paula Helzner.
Services were held at Temple Emanuel, Andover on May 23. Interment followed at Temple Emanuel Cemetery, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation, P.O. Box 501, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements were handled by Goldman Funeral Chapel, Malden.
